Alprazolam

Alprazolam is a medicine that belongs to the class called benzodiazepines. Its effects are based on decreasing the excitement in the brain therefore relieving panic attacks and anxiety disorders. The liquid form of alprazolam is supposed to be taken only with the help of a special dropper. You can mix the contents of the dropper with some juice, carbonated beverage or applesauce and take it like that. Do not store the preparation for future use as the medicine can lost its properties. Alprazolam is generally well tolerated, but as usual there are people that sometimes get side effects after using the medication. These may include dry mouth, lightheadedness, changes in sex drive, drowsiness, trouble urinating, impotence, tiredness, dizziness, weight changes, changes in appetite, and irritability. In some rare cases more serious side effects of alprazolam are also possible. You need to tell your doctor as soon as possible about the fact of developing seizures, severe skin rash, problems with coordination, yellowing of the skin or eyes, confusion, hallucinating, and memory problems.

In case of currently taking any other medications that may potentially interfere with the effects of alprazolam, make sure your health care provider knows about it, especially the following ones: sleeping pills, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, isoniazid, fluconazole, medications for mental illness and seizures, amiodarone, paroxetine, antifungals, clarithromycin, tranquilizers, sedatives, sertraline, erythromycin, oral contraceptives, cimetidine, ergotamine, antidepressants, and cyclosporine. Stopping the treatment suddenly is dangerous as it can cause certain symptoms that you would rather avoid, including sleeplessness, irritability, seizures and anxiousness. Other withdrawal symptoms are also possible.
